HBP Wins 4 Awards at the 2004 NVTA One Act Play Festival

Hard Bargain Players and "GONE" came away with four awards at the 23rd Annual Northern Virginia Theater Alliance (NVTA) One-Act Play Festival. The cast of GONE, which was directed and written by Bob Bartlett, includes Bruce Ward, Cassie Lee, Matt Jordan, and Randy Tusing. The awards included Best Overall Production, Best Production of an Original Play, Best Director, and Best Ensemble.

HBP Wins 2 Awards at the Maryland One Act Festival held February 20 - 21, 2004. GONE by Bob Bartlett was named Second Runner-Up for Outstanding Production and Jason Miles received one of six Outstanding Performance Awards.

 
HBP Receives 4 WATCH Nominations for 2003

The Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH) recently announced the nominees for the 4th annual Awards ceremony to be held at The Birchmere in Alexandria Sunday, March 7, Nineteen community theaters in Virginia, Maryland and the District presented a total of 79 shows (28 musicals and 51 plays) for judging. In each of twenty-eight categories, five nominees were selected based on the average scores of at least eight judges. In some categories, due to score ties, more than five nominees are announced. Hard Bargain Players received four nominations.

HBP Performing "GONE!" in February

HBP will be performing GONE! an original play written and directed by Bob Bartlett at the Chesapeake Bay Floating Theatre in Indian Head MD, on February 12th and at the Maryland One Act Festival on Saturday, February 21 at 9am in Frederick MD.

HBP Anouncing the 2004 Season Soon

We received many great submissions this year and are in the process of narrowing them down. We will announce the season in early February. The Hard Bargain season runs from May to October. All performances are at the Hard Bargain Farm Amphitheater located in Accokeek, Maryland.

 
Bob Bartlett Honored With HD Lewis Playwrights Award

Bob Bartlett was honored with the HD Lewis Playwrights Award after the Hard Bargain Players performed his original one act play, HEARTS IN FRANCE at Source's Washington Theatre Festival on August 13. Hearts in France tells of the travels of a veteran of World War II and the Korean War who struggles with his bisexuality while searching for the woman he loves. The production, also directed by Bartlett, features Bruce Ward, Jacob Rothermel, Joe McCann, Adam Brandao, Julie Ahern, and Monique Buffaloe.

Hearts in France will also conclude the Silver Spring Stage One-Act Festival the final weekend of August. Please visit SSS's website for information and tickets.

Cast of “The Crucible” Announced

Director Randy Tusing announces the cast of Hard Bargain Players' October production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible. Performances will be October 17, 18, 24, and 25 at 8:00 pm.

 
Hard Bargain Players & “Q312461” Win at NVTA

Hard Bargain Players and "Q312461" came away with eight nominations and two awards at the Northern Virginia Theater Alliance (NVTA) One-Act Play Festival. Fifteen plays were entered from throughout the area and ten awards were presented with nominations awarded in each category. There was one winner in each of the categories. Seven original plays were entered into the competition. Companies from throughout Northern Virginia and Washington DC joined Hard Bargain Players (the only Maryland group in the Festival). The Best Overall Production went to Alexandria's Tapestry Theatre Company for THE MOST MASSIVE WOMAN WINS.

Q312461 is set in 1942 in Washington, DC, and good friends and thirty-somethings Maggie, Sue, and Missy are a part of America's war machine and new working class. Regulars at Griffith Stadium, they are baseball fanatics who daily follow the exploits of the Washington Nationals, DC's professional baseball team. But the discovery of a set of dog tags intended for the father of Maggie's son sets off a series of events which culminates in the amusing witchery of the man's dog tags and the casting of a spell which will render the tag's owner impotent for as long as he wears them.
